Central Street

Overview

Getting its name from the goats that were prevalent throughout this Polish community starting in the 1830s, Bucktown has turned into one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Chicago with a tremendous collection of trendy restaurants and cozy bars, high-end boutiques and eclectic shops, and a diverse population of residents who connect Bucktown to its earlier days and drive it forward with the new and sought after.

For the brunch enthusiast, there are few places more stocked with options than Bucktown.  From the easy fare offered along Damen Avenue at places like Feast and Northside Tavern, to the wait-in-line-to-try-it hot spots like Bongo Room and Toast, there is something to offer everyone.  A personal favorite for brunch is Jane’s on Courtland near Ashland.

If live music is more your scene, you can still see some great shows at Subterranean (on the border of Wicker Park & Bucktown), or run up Milwaukee Avenue to the soon-to-be-refurbished Congress Theatre.  In addition, many of the bars (and there are a lot of bars) in the area provide patrons with some form of live entertainment throughout the week.

In terms of access to downtown, the Blue Line has stops at Damen and Western to ensure an easy ride into the city. Otherwise, I-90/94 is easily accessible for those trying to get to the airport or out of the city.
