Judy & Aaron were ex-Chicagoans who had moved to sunny California, leaving behind the cold and a Bucktown condo that had turned into an investment property. However, after reaching a point of no longer feeling as though they could manage their tenants’ needs from 2000 miles away, they contacted me to discuss how to sell a condo in Bucktown. Fast forward to the second day on the market, and we were under contract at 100% of Judy & Aaron’s asking price.
Needless to say, they were excited, but not nearly as excited as I was when I found out that they requested the Real Estate with Purpose donation go to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. Mainly because this meant one thing: Toys R Us shopping spree!
So, armed with a wish list from the folks at the hospital, I set out to get as many items as I could with the funds set aside for this donation. In the end, I was able to fill up two shopping carts worth of toys to give to the young patients. These toys will be used to lift the spirits of kids who are going through so much; whether it’s after a hard day, a particularly rough round of treatment, or on a special occasion that has to be spent at the hospital.
You don’t get a sense for the amount of thought and effort that goes into supporting a large non-profit organization until you start to read through their donation page. Of all the community-based, non-profits in Chicago, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital stands out for it’s fundraising efforts and community outreach – whether through partnerships with local media sponsors or sports teams or corporations who have made this organization a focal point for corporate giving. At some point, you would imagine that all the attention might cause them to take the grassroots donations for granted. But, from my experience, this is not the case at all. The level of appreciation that they demonstrated for this recent Real Estate with Purpose donation really did surprise me a great deal…
Thanks to Judy and Aaron for making this donation possible with the sale of your Bucktown condo!
